2026 IFPA Conference – Nairobi, Kenya
6th May – 10th May 2026
With immense gratitude and respect, I would like to thank Veronica and the entire IFPA Executive Team for the opportunity to attend the 2026 IFPA Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, from 6 to 10 May 2026.The experience was deeply moving. I arrived with few expectations and left profoundly inspired by the compassion, dedication, and humanitarian spirit of everyone present. One of the most valuable outcomes was identifying clear opportunities to strengthen patient advocacy in South Africa, grow our membership, and build closer partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and the medical community. These collaborations will help improve information sharing and create a more integrated, patient-centred approach to treatment. At the same time, I was struck by how little patient data we currently have available from our region to contribute to global conversations. This gap represents both a significant challenge and an important opportunity for the South African Psoriasis Association moving forward. The conference was impactful from start to finish. The opening session, where IFPA President Ingvar Agust Ingvarsson paid tribute to the late Dr. Hoseah Waweru, moved many of us to tears. Equally emotional was hearing our own Melini Moses share her powerful life’s journey with psoriasis on the panel discussion — a story of both profound challenge and inspiring resilience. From sessions on participation in clinical trials and pregnancy guidance for women living with psoriatic disease, to discussions on improving access to medication and enhancing education for healthcare professionals and patients, the programme was rich, practical, and forward-looking.Most importantly, I no longer feel isolated on this journey. The knowledge shared, the meaningful connections made, and the warmth and openness of the global psoriasis community reinforced my belief that far more is possible when we work together. I am deeply grateful to my family and friends for their unwavering support throughout my own psoriasis journey.I return home with treasured memories, a renewed sense of purpose, and real hope for the future. The South African Psoriasis Association is on the right path — one of growth, stronger advocacy, and better support for everyone living with psoriasis in our country.
